LACKLUSTER BUT DID 3 SELDOM PLAYED SONGS
I was surprised to find that Cory Wells didn't receive a mention from any band members, not even Danny; just some silly Star Wars music with the lights out before they began! My wife and I had 3rd row seats, offering a clear view of everything. This was one of new singer, Dave Morgan's first shows and the band took precautions by having everyone except Michael Allsup take the lead on songs. He did alright, but occasionally missed high notes. On Cory's signature "Never Been to Spain", my wife and I exchanged polite cringes when he missed a few times. To be fair, I don't believe even Cory was able to sing that tune in the last ten years or so. I hate to admit it, despite all his stubbornness and animosity towards Chuck Negron, but Danny was the standout performer on stage tonight, especially during Liar. His vocals were spot-on and he appeared to be singing more energetically than usual. Michael, on the other hand, delivered exceptional playing on Liar & Brickyard Blues. Their three top songs performed, aside from Liar, were three rarely played anymore: Let Me Serenade You, Plat Something Sweet #Brickyard Blues# & Sure As I'm Sittin' Here. This could be attributed to their infrequent performance of these tracks. I anticipated only an hour of performance, so that didn't bother me. For me to attend another show by this band, they must replace Mr. Morgan #he doesn't have it# with either Chuck or a much younger individual with the skills.
